Postal Auction August 2026 - 373

Bids to be received by Thursday 20th of August 2026 1:00 PM

Dear Collector,

This auction features over 500 lots of premium British Empire stamps from a lifetime collection, built primarily through purchases from Stanley Gibbons, London. Many items are still housed on their original Stanley Gibbons sales cards, reflecting the significant retail prices originally paid— often up to 80% of catalogue value.

The collection spans the reigns of Queen Victoria through KG 5th, with the collector assembling mint, used, and, in many cases, Specimen sets.

Highlights include the Falkland Islands, featuring key stamps from the 1933 Centenary issue up to the £1 value; St. Vincent with exceptional Queen Victoria material; and Ascension Island and St. Helena, including King George V varieties for every listed flaw across all values up to £1 (catalogue value £4,250).

There is also an extensive section of Orange Free State varieties, including numerous 1900 V.R.I. surcharges and overprints, many accompanied by certificates.

The British Africa section is particularly impressive, with Tanganyika, Kenya & Uganda, British East Africa, German East Africa overprints to 50 Rupees (mint), Zululand Queen Victoria issues to the 5s Carmine and £1 values, as well as Rhodesia featuring early surcharges, Double Heads to £1, Admiral Heads to £1, and much more.

We have priced the majority of these lots at approximately 30–35% of catalogue value, with a small number of the higher catalogue value key items priced slightly higher.

Many of the stamps were carefully selected from Stanley Gibbons with considerable expertise and include a range of scarcer material, such as Boer War Army Telegraphs, revenue issues, and a selection of attractive early philatelic covers with values up to 10s.

Whether offered as complete sets or individual stamps, this remarkable collection presents an outstanding opportunity to acquire quality British Empire material at affordable prices.
